A friend says her thyroid is "dead". She did not have it removed but she
believes it is totally inactive. She takes medication, of course. Is
this enough info for an opinion on whether diet could help lower the
medication, or should I try to get more?
Keep in mind that the "medication" given for thyroid is simply hormone
replacement, not anything else. Granted, most thyroid hormones prescribed are
synthetic, but there are natural hormones for replacement, if you don't mind
pretending you are a pig :) I take Armour thyroid from pigs myself. There is
very little chance that diet can remedy a thyroid once it is not functioning,
but there are some anecdotal reports that eliminating gluten can help.
