Hi,
I've been reading about the differences between Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity and that CD has an autoimmune component that GS does not. About six years ago I developed Peripheral Neuropathy which could not be linked to anything. It was a complete mystery to all the GPs and specialists that I went to. Finally, I went to a Naturopath who put me on a gf diet. Not only did my GI issues (which I had had for 35 years) resolve, but the PN also went away.
So, my question is this: Is it possible to have a secondary disease with gluten sensitivity just as it is with CD. Or is the presence of an autoimmune response an indication that it is CD and not gluten sensitivity? Since I haven't had a celiac panel, is it reasonable to assume that since the PN and my lifelong GI disturbances went away on a gf diet, that I did have CD and not gluten sensitivity?
I should mention that I tested positive to EnteroLabs antibody test, but normal to fat malabsorption test.
