If the knee brace isn't going to be something I can put on
effectively, won't relieve pain, may make walking more difficult or
dangerous (especially up stairs), and the surgery has a reasonably good
chance of success, yes. The cost isn't something I take lightly, but
overall quality of life with the two options is something that needs to be
considered. Surgery shoud be the last option, but any orthopedic surgeon
worth his/her fees should have explained all the options up to and including
surgery. If Trisha's doctor hasn't done that, I'd suggest she get a second
opinion. I didn't mean to say that Trisha shouldn't consider a brace, just
that there are reasons that it might not be the best option.

Kendall

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress
depends on the unreasonable man.

-George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950
