Hi Eric,
Only 2 cables for this unit. USB cable from interface to pc. The
interface also draws it's power from the USB, so no external power is
needed. Second cable goes from the interface to the radio. Where it
connects depends on which radio you have. They supply 1 cable for your
radio of choice. It may go to the front panel mic, although most more
modern radios will connect via an accessory or data jack on the rear.
Most of the accessory or data jacks will also pass received audio from radio
to interface. If connecting to front panel mic jack, you may have to get
received audio from a speaker jack unless audio is somehow available from
that front panel jack.
Of course you should walk before you run. To receive PSK or any digital
mode, all you need is a audio connection from the radio to soundcard input
on the pc. No interface or anything, just 1/8 stereo cable into soundcard
line in and other end to some audio source on the radio like an external
speaker jack.
With this simple connection and your software of choice, you can see if it
works. If you can't get the software to decode the signal and get your
screen reader to spit it out in some understandable fashion, you're dead in
the water and no sense going further and spending money on interfaces and
other junk.
