Which ham bands do you want to monitor?
The R7000 will cover 10 meters through 902 33 cm, but if you were looking
to listen on the HF bands, it is definitely the wrong receiver for you.
It really depends upon where your interests lie. If it is VHF, then do you
want to listen to weak signal (SSB & CW), or are your interests limited to
FM? If you don't plan to listen to VHF weak signal stuff, then the R7000
is overkill.
