Thanks John. I did purchase a Taktenna, but it isn't as portable as I had
hoped.   I see you recommend the Outbacker.  Do you have to run a
counterpoise wire with that antenna?

For a tuner, look at the LDG line. Any of their tuners will do what you want
for sure.
IF you're looking for a portable antenna to take around with you, honestly,
I recommend, either the outbacker outpost tripod, or even better if you can
find one to get the plans in your head, do what I did and make your own,
that was much cheaper and I think mine is better in some ways. With that,
any mobile antenna that takes a 3/8 mount will go on that tripod, and be it
a Carolina bug catcher, an outbacker, a ham stick, or a screwdriver, they
all work and you can play around with it. If you want something a little
more permanent but still somewhat portable, a dipole might be the best bet. 
If that's out, I don't know but I'm sure there's something out there for
you. Even the isotron antennas are reasonable, of the taktennas but I don't
know a lot about either of them as far as performance.
