Butch:

If you are on vfo A., and push that vfo control till you get the high beep, 
then vfo B. will be muted.  Conversely, if you are on vfo B.,  and press vfo 
B. till you get the high beep, then vfo A.  will be muted.

In other words, pressing and holding the vfo till you get the high beep will 
automatically mute the other vfo you are not using.

At least that's how i now understand things.
