Hi Tom.
Those SWR readings seem a little high to me. I wonder if you could have an
open or resistive feedpoint connection on one side of the ladder line on
the antenna side of the ladder line?
With the tuner I can generally bring 40 meters down to between 1.6 to 1
(low end) and 1.3 to 1 z(high end). On 20 meters, I typically see 1.2 to 1
on the phone portion of 20 meters with the tuner. Either I've got a much
better tuner than you, or there is a problem somewhere in your antenna system.
