Butch,

If you place the Stream face down on a flat surface with the top edge of the 
machine facing away from you, you'll notice that the top edge of the battery 
door is curved in the shape of an inverted print U.  Pressing down on that 
curved surface releases the door, and it will slide toward you.  Once you 
open it, you'll be able to see how the latch works.
