Hi Walter,
I also just bought a tmv71a and I'm very happy with it. Around here, D-Star
is becoming more popular primarily for emergency, RACES, work. D-star can
handle voice and data at the same time. In my opinion, the voice quality
with d-star is not that good and signal strength needs to be very good to
get reliable transmission between two points. That is why I got the TMV71A.
