When you install a program, the Registry is updated to show the
locations of files and drives needed to run the specific program. If
your E drive is now called C, you may have trouble booting up and some
programs may not work unless you reinstall them. You may also have
problems with printers, usb ports and file retrieval. The best choice
would be to reinstall xp on the new drive along with all your programs.
Then you can copy your files from the old drive to the new drive. If
your computer is more than a year old and cluttered with programs you
don't use, etc., you will see better performance. Do a little research
on the web about the registry for more information - the physical moving
of the data is easy, the complexity of the registry is the issue.
