I apologize if this seems simplistic, but that's about where I am on the
hardware side.
I got a hard drive that I installed in an enclosure, and had no luck with
it. As it turned out, there were 2 things I had to do. I had to change the
jumpers to a setting other than was on the actual hard drive cover. Had to
exchange emails with the manufacturer to get the setting. Not showing the
proper settings shouldn't be a problem for you if you're installing it
inside the machine.
The other thing I had to do was format the hard drive. I wish I could
remember how I did it so I could tell you, but it was NOT intuitive, nor was
it accessible from an icon like "my computer" and searching help on my
machine for "format hard drive". It was in something like drive management
that was easy to find - - after someone told me how to get to it.
I would have expected formatting would be as easy as it is when you slip a
floppy in a drive, but it's not. But, it served my problem of the hidden
hard drive and may very well do the same for you.
Sorry I can't give you more specifics, but since I know it's easy once you
find out how to do it, I thought I would post and hope somebody else can
provide specifics. Post when you get this resolved and let us know what
works.

Subject: Second Hard Drive Installation Problem
Hello members,
I need advice installing a second hard drive as a slave. I have a Dell XPS
400 running with XP. I purchased a new Seagate 160GB Serial ATA w/NCQ
7200/8MB from an internet company and a hookup cable from a different inte=
rnet
source listed as SATA Serial ATA Cable =96 36inch =96 Red =96 1 Right Angle
Connector. I installed the drive and connected the cable to the drive and
the motherboard also connected the extra power plug to the drive. The
computer doesn't recognize the drive by clicking on "My Computer" also the
Add Hardware Wizard cannot find it. The drive did not come with an
installation CD or installation instructions. Where do I go from here?
