Omar,
Your experience of Nderry is interesting. You of all of us can share some of
the values of Nderry and your appreciation of him. Have you ever shared with
Nderry that you love him? I encourage you to share your sentiments and
reminisce with Nderry. It could do some good.
Haruna.

As a former Journalist, who was in the Gambia at the time Pa Nderry's name
started flowing higher among other names of prominent Journalist in the
Gambia, I think I can make a small comment about him.
Here's my little take on Pa. He's ambitious and he would go great lengths to
get his names out there. When he gets the story right, he's among the best.
Those are the days when you'd rush to the Westfield junction to buy a copy of
the observer or the Point, because he was capable of breaking a story to the
two top papers in the Gambia. I am talking about the days of Alieu Badara
Sowe (Mam bowe I called him), Bunja Touray (Ndokeh)of the Gambia Daily
newspaper (is that paper still around?), Demba Jawo, Sherif Bojang, Baboucarr Sankanu
(my favorite Sarahule) just to name a few.
I remember having an after-work conversation with one of these honorable
gentlemen, and Pa's name came up, and we both agreed he needs to be a little bit
more careful. Grant it I worked for a National public medium at the time,
and I loved it but I couldn't speak like Pa. But I always wondered about his
reports. His reports were very similar to the ones of the late Momodou Musa
Secka's (may his soul rest in perfect peace). Well M.M. Secka, reported on
hotshots he new very well and will definitely make money off of it. He was
guaranteed trouble -free even if the reports were not accurate. Things got better
for him when he settle-in at the Gambia Daily. Pa on the other hand was for the
name and not so much for the money and that's why he had more trouble with
the authorities than most other reporters. I'd always confused him with greedy
reporters, but again am even more confused about his ethics as a journalist.
Before judging him, I think we need to figure out whether it is his natural
habit to make stories up or something else. If it is habit, can we teach an
old dog a new trick?
PS. I know M.M. Secka is no longer with us. I didn't bring up his name to
disrespect him. My apology to anyone this comparison may offend. After all he
was a legend in his own way. My hat off to him.

Senghore?
If Papa Ndery thinks that he can continue to indulge in such false reports
and if he thinks he can’t change his habits (false reportings), it is up to
readers (public) to boycott the paper. We should send a clear message to
the
paper that we had enough. No more no less.
