Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry about Providence. Below are
the emails I received.

Thanks again,
Kate

1. There is Whole Foods in Providence and also Eastside Marketplace for GF
groceries. At Prov. Place Mall, Smokey Bones has a GF menu, as does
Pizzeria Uno (but not the pizza there). Legal Sea Foods in Warwick, RI and
Outback Steakhouse in Seekonk, MA are also close and have GF menus.

2. http://www.pinellimarrarestaurants.com/

He told me they are having Celiac awareness fundraiser at the
"Waterplace" restaurant in Providence at the end of the month, and Dr.
Fassano will be there. I now feel safe to go to many restaurants in this
group all over the state! what a thrill!!!!!!!

3. I have had Celiac disease for 4 years and live in Providence. The best
market is Whole Foods. Their best celiac food choice is their Gluten Free
Bakery items, including their GF bread line. There are two in Providence.
The larger on is on North Main Street. Shaws Market has lower prices and
much less selection but I use it often.

Regarding restaurants, the only one in Providence with a GF menu is Twist on
Angel, 500 Angell Street, but there are others nearby. I eat at Outback
Steakhouse, Chili's, Pinelli's North End Cafe, Ted's Montana Grill and
Carrabba's Italian Grill, Uno Chiicago Grill, and Pei Wei Asian Diner, which
all have GF menu's. You can also get selective GF food at Ruby Tuesdays,
Bugaboo Steakhouse, Chelo's and Boston Market locations.

I hope this helps. Contact me directly if you want more specific GF menu
selections or any other information.

4. Health Heaven is a gluten free store that is in Tiverton, RI not too far
from Providence. The owner Kathy runs a support group so she'll know of more
places to eat out at in that area.

5. I used to live in RI, now Im in Ohio....buy when I go back I love to go
to Papparazzi in Cranston..they make me a gluten free chicken parmesan and 2
times it has been great. Its so hard when you are raised Italian to not have
bread and pasta! I have a web site I created as my Senior project but more
Z(selfishly) to connect with other Celiac and learn from each other, Please
see my site and sign my guest book, and don't forget to say you are from
RI...I Initially thought to reach out to Ohioans but realistically, the
Internet makes the world smaller. I was recently at Mariani home for the
funeral of my Grandmother...it was hard not get some bakery pizza :(
My Grandmother is on Cape Cod and lots info we can share
thanks

6. Rhode Island probably has more gluten free restaurants per square mile
than any state in the union. I haven't done the massive research necessary
to prove that statement, but consider what I have discovered and perhaps you
will agree.
AN UPDATED AND EXPANDED VERSION OF THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN WRITTEN. CLICK HERE
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO THAT ARTICLE.
The Outback Steak House has a restaurant in East Greenwich,
(401-886-4543). As they do throughout the nation, the Outback offers a
gluten free menu as well as great food and an awesome atmosphere.
You can also enjoy a great meal at Carrabba's Italian Grill, a subdivision
of the Outback, in Warwick. Phone them at 401-827-8880). Click here for
their gluten free menu.
The Pinnelli-Mara Restaurant Group presents eight (count them!) gluten
free restaurants in Rhode Island. Check out their website, but I suspect
that you'll get useful information by consulting the list published by the
Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program (GFRAP), a project of the Gluten
Intolerance Group. The groups newest restaurant, Waterplace in Providence,
serves gluten free meals but is not yet posted on the GFRAP list.
The Kabob and Curry Restaurant in Providence (401-273-8844), has an
inviting website, and is also featured on "Restaurant Awareness" page that I
mentioned in the last paragraph. The same management operates the Rasoi
Restaurant (401-728-5500) in Pawtucket, which features Indian cuisine and
gluten free offerings.
I'm anxious to try the cuisine at The Bugaboo Creek Steak House, even
though all I know about it is its intriguing name. Its Rhode Island
restaurant is in Warwick, 401-781-1400.
On the Border serves great Mexican food at its restaurant in Warwick
(401-826-2987). For the location, click here , scroll down to the map, and
click on the name of the state. This link will take you to the gluten free
menu. This page will look almost exactly like the one you used to find the
location. Scroll to the lower right corner of the screen, press the
Allergens Information button, and follow the directions that will appear.
This information is reviewed and updated monthly, so be sure that you have
the latest version.
Great food from Uno Chicago Grill is available in Providence
(401-270-4866), Smithfield (401-233-4570), and Warwick (401-738-5610). Click
on the restaurant name to get locations; click here to read their list of
items suited to the celiac lifestyle.
Ted's Montana Grill provides service in Cranston (401-275-5070). Click here
for their list of gluten free menu items.
You can dine at Chili's Restaurants in all 50 states. There are six
locations in Rhode Island: Providence (401-421-4850), East Providence
(401-431-40620, Warwick (401-821-0310), Smithfield (401-232-2280), Lincoln
(401-333-4085), and Middletown (401-848-9380). Chili's cares enough about
food sensitivities to provide a complete list of appropriate food and update
that list every month.
The 99 Restaurants — a casual dining chain that seems to emphasize seafood
— has three restaurants in Rhode Island: Cranston (401-463-9993), Newport
(401-849), and Warwick (401-827-9903). Click here read their list of foods
suited to the gluten free diet.
Ask for the gluten free menu when visiting the Texas Roadhouse in Cranston
(401-944-1900).
Romano's Macaroni Grill serves Italian foods at its restaurant in Warwick
(401-738-8179). Click here to find the exact location. To read their gluten
free menu, move to the lower right corner of the same page, click on the
Allergens Information button, and follow the directions that will appear.
The food list is updated monthly, so be sure that you have the latest
version.
Fresh City's motto is "live life to the freshest" and offers its "fresh
fusion" menu in Warwick (401-821-1700).
Every restaurant in the Legal Seafoods Chain features a gluten free menu.
Their Rhode Island restaurant is located in Warwick (401-732-3663).
Check out Smokey Bones (401-821-2789) in Warwick, Rhode Island. The
website says nothing about gluten free barbeque, but the place comes highly
recommended.
Coffee and gluten free cake and pastry are available at Ursula's European
Pastries (401-941-4122) in Cranston.
Finally, I recommend the Asian cuisine served at the PeiWei Diner in
Cranston (401-464-9360). Click here to read their gluten free menu
suggestions.
Well there you have it: 32 gluten free restaurants in a state that is
only 48 miles long! My thanks to Alan De Palo who contributed some of this
information. Click here to read his entire message to me. If you know of
other gluten free restaurants, please e-mail me at [log in to unmask]
Given its size, I can't imagine a Rhode Island vacation that does not
involve crossing a state line, so I suggest that you read my articles
"Gluten Free Restaurants in New England" and "Exploring Gluten Free Boston".
I have also posted articles on gluten free restaurants

7. There are a ton of gluten-free friendly restaurants in the Providence
area. Two of my favorites are Waterplace Restaurant right in downtown
Providence, and Twist on Angel, which is on the "east side" near Brown
University. Both are owned by the Pinelli-Marra Restaurant Group who own 8
restaurants in Rhode Island. ALL of them have gluten-free menus that are
amazing. They also get it - no cross contamination, etc. Most of their
restaurants even carry gluten-free beer!
Enjoy your time in Providence!
