Tom,

Quite frankly, I wouldn't use a switching supply on that radio, mostly 
because of the noise problems you mentioned.  I know there are quiet 
switching power supplies, but you'll probably pay a lot more for one than 
you would for a linear power supply of comparable current rating.  Since you 
want to use the radio in a motor home, wouldn't it be more practical to run 
the radio off of a 12-volt source?  Aside from that, an Astron 35-amp supply 
is about 8 inches square, so it's not that big.
