Folks,
I will appeal to all justice loving Gambians, all those who are genuinely opposed to Jammeh's tyranny and brutal regime to boycott youssou's CD “AlSAAMADAY". Those who follow the politics of the Gambia know that "ALSAAMADAY is the AFRC election slogan. If our artists do not want to have principles, we must hit them where it hurts, which is the pocket book.
I know some will quickly suggest that, whether we buy it or not the majority will do, thus rendering our efforts mute. This is not necessarily true. For the past twelve years, I together with other activists around the world have boycotted NIKE because of the unfair treatment of its workers. However, today NIKE has been forced to accept our complains and is doing something to remedy the situation. Yes for twelve years, I have not bought or owned NIKE, but since they have taken drastic measures to correct the treatment of its employees, I will suspend my boycott of NIKE to the great pleasure of my daughter, who cannot wait to have me buy her a pair.
I am currently boycotting Wal-Mart and unless they treat their workers with dignity, I will not buy from their stores regardless of the price.
Therefore, fellow Gambians let us for once resist YOUSSOU’s wonderful Mbalax for the interest of the Gambia. If you cannot live without Youssou’s album try buying a pirated one. (I am totally against pirating, but since Youssou’s wants to be hypocritical by promoting the murderous regime of Jammeh after he had tried to fool people with his songs about democracy and his refusal to play in the USA in protest of the War in Iraq, we must demonstrate to him our disdain for hypocrisy.)
I hope my brother will understand that my intention is not to deprive of business, but one that is based purely on genuine concern for the greater good of the Gambia.
