Amiodarone is one of the antiarrhythmics and has iodine in its molecular
structure. It suppresses the thyroid and makes one hypothyroid during
persistent use. Have you considered reducing your thyroxine dose in such a
way that you don't get irregular heartbeat? The kind of arrhythmia one gets
from too much thyroid progressess to an erratic firing of electrical
impulses in the upper chambers of the heart-- this is called "Atrial
Fibrillation" For toxic hyperthyroids, this is prevented by using Beta
Blockers (e.g. Propranolol).
I would advise you to have a re-assessment of your drug regimen to avoid
taking one type just to counter the effects of another. Simple dose
reduction might even do the only thing needed.
If you need materials on amiodarone-- let me know back channel.
