Thanks Gail and Joan for your replies, I has an awful day yesterday -
spaced out, and one momentary episode of what feels like no oxygen to
the brain, it is a sort of faint feeling, but not a faint, lasted
approximately 15 seconds. You feel like you are just going to go right
out. People around you become distant, you feel that this might be what
dying is like! This happened while I was at work where I serve the
public. Not nice. I came back to "consciousness" OK, not like the last
time when I ended up in Emergency and they dx'd hypertension. Maybe
it's connected to that. Maybe hypoglycemic? Diabetes?
We had a health booth at work the other day, my cholesterol, sugars and
bp all UP.
It is interesting you say the beta blockers suppress thyroid! Well,
that's a nice trick, no wonder I might be hypo, I've gained weight etc.
Is this some ploy of the doctors? We'll give her this then she'll need
even more meds. What next? What does the Synthroid "give" you? It's a
relief to know it takes time to build up AND down.
As the day proceeded I felt mildly better. I went for a walk a
lunchtime to get whole body moving, but on the way home, driving, I had
most peculiar sensation of pricking in my left eye, sporadic, then I
thought my throat was swelling up and couldn't breathe. I decided I had
had enough, maybe I am overreacting, having a panic attack (which I have
never had) and popped a thyroid pill, luckily I had water in the car. I
also called in at the doctor's office on way home, to see if results
were back, the whole place was closed. Friday night, right?
Continued home, still not right, but within the hour pricking had
stopped. Had some supper (white turkey, tomato) then finished off with
yogurt. Wham! Within minutes I was giddy and feeling like the days'
symptoms were returning. Checked the yogurt and it had aspartame in
it. I went to bed right after supper, couldn't even watch Frazier (!),
slept a few hours then it was awake another two, then a sound night's
sleep. I feel a lot better this morning, just a dull thud of a
headache. My weight is down 3 lb since Monday .. but hey, I can do that
in a day.
Oh, one more thing, the night before yesterday I had very little sleep,
about 4 hours aggregate, so I guess I can throw in sleep-deprivation
too. Seems to me the hypothalamus that controls sleep (?) and also
weight, is somehow mixed up in this. If you ask me the hypothalamus is
responsible for a lot of things and should BACK OFF! :) I want a new
one.
I'm going to see how I go now. Thank you again, I'll continue to read
this list, (I've been lurking ever since I started the Synthroid). Had
to laugh over Gail's
"By the way 25 mcg of synthroid would not keep a cat going."
... I have two poody-cats, am a cat person, and my Taffa doesn't need
anything to keep her going, she's a wild one. Never sleeps on my bed
(her sister does usually) but last night elected to do so, knew I wasn't
well, and sister kept a respectful distance (UNDER) my bed. Between
them, they got me feeling 60% better.
Madeleine
P.S. is mcg the same as mg?
