Travaglini to undergo surgery
Thursday, May 12, 2005
State Senate President Robert Travaglini was scheduled to have two to three lymph nodes removed yesterday after a test found them to be abnormal.
Travaglini was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer four years ago. He had his thyroid gland and several lymph nodes removed after that diagnosis and additional lymph nodes were taken out in 2003.
Travaglini represents the eastern portion of Cambridge.
His doctor, Gilbert Daniels, said this week's procedure was "common" and minor and that a "full recovery is expected." As of Wednesday morning, Travaglini was expected to spend one night at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital, and his spokeswoman Ann Dufresne said he'll be back in the office next week and is expected to attend his son Andrew's first communion Sunday.
"This is pretty routine," said Dufresne. "The doctors say his outlook is terrific and he's in no pain."
