They still make some good professional products but some of the consumer
items are miss marketed or too proprietary. I am thinking of their
early process for transferring data to Mini Disks. It should have been
possible from the get go to do this in something faster than real time.

Well, then it will be a way s then, but that I think is coming, and is
not a matter of if but when. Sony made some good products like Betamax,
but they shot themselvs in the foot by not marketing it correctly.
