The K3 seems to get rave reviews and there are several video clips on youtube.com including a guy showing tips on building the kit version.
I don't know if buttons provide any audio feedback and the concept of tap and hold sounds inaccessible. On the other hand, check out the programmer's manual. It seems that you can control everything via the serial port and can have knobs and buttons report status on that port. It would be neat to try changing frequency and mode using a notetaker like the Braille 'N Speak.
