Gary,
    Now my brain is whirling.  I do have a steel filing cabinet and am now 
trying to re arrange my room (in my head).  My computer, embosser and 
treadmill are all in here.  LOL

    What got me on this path was, I did the weekly net last night using my 
HT.  Reception did not seem as good, I was getting more background noise
than I have before.  Had to walk into another room to get rid of some of it.
I got a 1/4 wave antenna to replace the duckie.  Apparently I was sending 
fine.  I could use that 5/8 tho as a mag mount as the filing cabinet is next 
to my recliner.  Hmmm.
