A mistake I have made is that I haven't had the radio set to program via the
menu, it turns out I had it set on microphone. I don't remember what menu
number it is though.

    Maybe it was beginner's luck.  The first time I installed the Kenwood
software along with the USB driver, I was able to use the software to add to
the memory channels.

    Now that I want to add some more, I cannot.  I get the "Communication
timeout error".  I reinstalled the USB driver and reset the com port, no go.

    Device Manager shows this new com port as it should.

    Any ideas?
