Hi.

I think you have to take into account the fact that the IC706 is 
essentially an economy radio as is the IC718, whereas in it's day, the 
IC751 series was top of the line equipment.  That makes a 
difference.  Also, the '751A has a much larger footprint than the '706 
series radios--there is a lot more room for frills in there.

I think that if you understand the markets the two radios were being 
pitched at, then the absence of functions like the monitor function 
actually makes some sense.
