John,
It's a very popular amp and I think easy to use. It was on my short list
when amp shopping last month. Read the e-ham reviews and ask on the air,
there are a lot of them out there. One issue that pops up on occasion is
quality control problems.
Now this is second hand info that I picked up somewhere, but supposedly the
latest versions of the ALS-600 will do autobandswitching with the use of a
$120 option. This optional unit is the same as used by the 500 watt
mobile amp for auto bandswitching. It may be true, or who knows?
Like Kevin, I went a little deeper into the wallet and got a Tokyo
Hy-Power. Mine is the HL-1.2KFX which I got 3 weeks ago. Compact, Just
set the band switch and operate, includes 10/12 meters without mods, full
break-in and 750 pep ssb.
I'm happy with my choice and hope you will be happy with whatever you
choose.
73, Steve KW3A
