Hi.
This is primarily for Mark, although other HTX202 users might find it
useful, as well.
I was on Batteries America's web site this afternoon
(http://www.batteriesamerica.com).
For the Radio Shack HTX202, they have a large number of battery packes,
both NiCad and NiMH types, and two battery chargers listed.
They have a wall charger for $12.95 if you don't mind slow charging the
battery, or if you want fast charge capability they have a drop in smart
charger for $54.95.
Those who remember the Icom BC35 or the Mr. NiCad BC350 might shudder at
the mention of the fast charger as these older chargers used a thermal
couple to sense when the battery was fully charged by sensing when the
battery was starting to get hot. The problem with these older chargers is
that you had to overcharge the battery to a degree to get the battery hot
enough to shut the charger off, and sometimes the battery would get hot
enough to melt the plastic in the case causing the charging contacts to
migrate into the battery case, permanently shutting the battery charge off!
Well, this newer charger actually uses smart charging technology that
measures the charge on the battery and switches the charge rate down to a
trickle charge when the battery is fully charged. It does not use the
thermal couple and should be much less destructive to the battery.
So, there you go, Mark. The answer to your problem.
