You are definitely running a bit more horsepower than my biggest box, which
has a Intel dual core processor (I forget the clock speed) and 1 GB of
RAM. The older box, the one that really needs a hardware synthesizer is
using a 1.7 Gig AMD Athelon with 512 MB, and it gets pretty pokey at
times. I've thought about replacing it with a new computer as even the low
end boxes will fly in comparison with it as long as I run Windows XP. But,
then, I've also thought about just ripping this one apart and putting more
RAM in, and doing a fresh install of the operating system and all drivers
on the premise that over five years, there is undoubtedly at least some
corruption in the operating system just from the number of things that have
been installed and uninstalled from the machine. I've seen a reload of the
OS completely change the personality of the machine.
