Lou,

According to a friend of mine who got his information from a Kenwood 
technician, the PF switching is accomplished by grounding pin 3 or 4 through 
either a high or low resistor.  Two of the PF buttons are connected to the 
high value resistors, and the other two are connected to low value 
resistors.  The value of the resistor determines which of two keys will work 
for a given pin, which is how they get the four functions.
