Hi.

I don't know about the Drake R8, but the Drake R8A definitely can be 
computer controlled.  It has a DB9 connector right on the back of the radio 
for that purpose.  If you want to listen between 100 KHz and 30 MHz, it is 
a superior receiver in many respects.  I think that in your situation, you 
might find the filtering in that radio to be quite nice for CW 
reception.  My only misgiving is that I thought it tended to have a little 
more thermal drift than the Icom R75, but the filtering in the Drake was 
definitely nicer.
