Tom,

If you use the stock microphone, it comes with a coiled cable that's about 3 
feet long without stretching the coil.  However, you can probably get or 
make an extension cable if you need one.  Alternatively, you can just 
position the radio close to the operating position.  There's nothing that 
says the control head can't be near the radio.
