Danny,
I owned a 735 some years ago and we got along well. No speech. As I
recall I had put the mid-point of each band in to a memory and so
could get to 7.200 for example. And I think that the tuning ratio
was about 10 khz per revolution so I could interpelate from my
starting point. And if I got lost or concerned I could go back to my
starting point. Not very scientific but effective.
Like most of the solid state rigs frequency is the only concern once
you know where to set the speech gain, compression and so on.
I wouldn't pay a whole lot for a 735 today but it was a good rig for
knocking around - if it got hurt at Field Day you wouldn't want to
slash your wrists!!
