In a retrospective case-control study of 2,226 females, researchers found
that women with primary hypothyroidism had a 61 percent lower risk of
developing invasive breast cancer. Additionally, women newly diagnosed with breast
cancer were 57 percent less likely to have the under-active thyroid gland
condition compared to a control group of healthy women. >>>>
About the only reasonable thing that you can say about a correlation (two
things that change in the same way, at the same time-like hem lines and stock
prices) is, "That's Interesting."

A major risk factor for breast cancer in females is getting older. Being
Hypothyroid lower the risks of getting older.

Each year, about 500,000 women in the USA, between the ages of 40 and 65 die
from Cardiovascular Disease. During the same time, only about 60,000 women
in that age group die from all the Reproductive cancers combined: Breast,
Uterine, Vaginal, Ovarian and Cervical. ("Screaming to Be Heard" by Elizabeth
Vliet, MD).

Being Hypothyroid roughly doubles your risk of coronary artery disease which
is a major factor in Heart Attack deaths.

Add to the above, the mortality from more frequent Depressions, Infections
of all kinds, and Hysterectomies from dysfunctional uterine bleeding, all of
which are more commonly seen in Hypothyroid patients; and a picture of
premature deaths affecting the risk of breast cancer is suggested.

While I am not denying the possibility of a relationship between
Hypothyroidism and a lower incidence of breast cancer, it appears that the authors are
ignoring some very important factors which complicate this correlation.

I will admit, however, "That's Interesting."
