Joyce,
I haven't had to deal with a modem problem for a long time, I do recall the
modem would not test good unless it found a dial tone.
Possibly you do have a corrupted driver so first I suggest you re-install
the driver and modem.
If that does not restore service I would do a system restore to a date
prior to the storm .
The depending on the type modem your machine has possibly you can install a
known good modem for a trial.
Let us know how you make out.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Error 77 -- is my modem fried?

Since I haven't seen my request for help as yet, I'm re-sending with
more details: This is an eMachines W2925, bought new in 2006, running
Win XP home, with ITU v.92 Ready Fax/Modem. After the storm, there is
no dial tone from the modem. I tested it through the control panel and
the report is that it's working, except that I get some kind of "driver
not found" code on the test. TIA for any help -- I found a lot of
advice on modems in the archives, but none specifically for this problem.

> Except for my ISP I don't _have_ a "network administrator." Help?!
