Hi Wally,
Thanks for posting that link. I was particularly interested, given recent
discussions of bone health and meat consumption, in Mary Enig's findings.

I know that a large proportion of my diet has been composed of saturated
fats, especially derived from meats and butter for the last 11 years or so.
Although I have also been supplementing with magnesium, which is the only
effective treatment I know of for celiac associated bone demineralization, I
had not considered that my shift to more saturated fats happened at about
the same time.

I have written elsewhere about my "impossible" recovery of bone density. In
my early 50s some of my bones tested almost osteoporotic. A shift to taking
Mg. (and co-incidentally, saturated fats) seems to have resulted in the same
bones testing just slightly less dense than a healthy 25 year-old about 5
years later. I have always assumed it was the Mg alone, but now I realize
that my saturated fat intake may have had something to do with it as well.
At 62, I am enjoying good bone health and am grateful for the researchers
who publish findings that don't necessarily square with current conventional
wisdom.

I'd also like to tell you about my wife's experience with saturated fats,
but I'll have to get her permission first.

Best Wishes,
Ron
