-From Debby:
This is why I almost never eat out with my co-workers,
although I work with very professional people who
wouldn't be so rude.
>From Brenda:
OK, you young'un's, LOL, listen up. :) As I said in my previous post, some
of this comes with age, but believe me when I tell you that if you stick to
your guns and go about living your life as you believe you should, people
will eventually come to respect you for that.

I agree with Brenda. At 52 I am no longer bothered by not fitting in - and
I will not modify my behavior for less enlightened people ;) In fact, over
time I think people have seen that there must be merit in the way I eat. I
know I notice how many people in my age group complain of aches and pains
which are foreign to me.
I have been eating low carb then paleo since 11/96, and reaction has been
brutal at times - especially from my extended family for the first few
years. Now everyone accepts it, and most admire (even if grudgingly) my
health, energy and weight loss. I have even been responsible for changes
being made in the food supplied at church social functions by stating over
time that not everyone can be healthy while eating sugars and processed
foods (I don't think anyone can but I was looking for middle ground in
seeing some changes made) and by bringing my own foods.
Having said that, I really feel for the children because peer pressure seems
so much more important when one is young. I probably would not have had the
fortitude to eat this way in grade school. I do wonder whether sending
children off to schools to be educated by strangers is a paleo way of life,
but I know it is not food related so I won't pursue it.
