I think this group is a great form for celiacs/gluten-free people to share ideas, thoughts, opinions, and also report on specific information they have learned. I know we are all smart enough to take everything we read with a grain of salt, but... it still bothers me when people give specific health advice based on wrong information. I personally feel that people should not make "this is a fact" statements unless they post citations to back them up. So...

From a post the other day:
"Nsaids are the number one cause of kidney disease, "

Granted, NSAIDS can be very hard on the kidneys, for people that already have kidney problems. However, you will find a million sources, governement, webmd, various prestigious medical organizations, the natl kidney institute, etc... that all say the same thing

The leading cause of kidney disease is diabetes, which accounts for about 40% of cases. One good overview is at
http://kidneydiseases.about.com/lod/riskfactors/a/Article0003.htm

If you already have kidney disease, you should not take NSAIDs unless your doctor specifically told you it is ok. If you don't, and you choose the take NSAIDs, the best thing you can do is drink at least one full glass of water with the medicine, as well as stay well hydrated all day, because being dehydrated is the biggest risk factor for NSAIDs affecting your kidneys even temporarily (which is not the same as disease).

There are only two kinds of people in this world- those who make gross over-generalizations, and those who don't.
