Following is a response I received from the president of the company
with regard to their UltraSimple meals.

Jane,

I am President of UltraWellness and business partners with Dr. Hyman
and wanted to personally address this situation.

I apologize for any miscommunication you or anyone else has received
regarding the gluten issue.

In fact, Dr. Hyman design the meals to not only be gluten-free, but
also dairy-free, egg-free, yeast-free and corn-free -- and except for
one soy-based UltraShake, all meals are soy-free too. Nuts are used
in a few meals and as a snack. The food, however, is not produced in
a dedicated, gluten-free kitchen. The kitchen does make meals for
other businesses that have wheat, barley, oats and other gluten-based
ingredients, but they do maintain the highest standards for food
quality and cleanliness as an USDA food inspector is located on site.

I myself have Celiac disease so this is something near and dear to my
heart; in fact, I met Dr. Hyman because I went to see him about my
high cholesterol, which turned out to be caused by a hypothyroid
condition that I had (Hashimoto's), which turned out was being caused
by a gluten-allergy that I never knew about.

This home-delivered meals program is less than a month old and we are
still working on training the customer service reps to be allergen-
savvy, which as you probably know takes some time. We apologize for
the confusion when you called, our Customer Call Center was recently
trained on the diet and we we are still working on educating them to
be allergen-savvy, especially regarding the expanse of ingredients
required to be "Gluten-Free", but we will be doing so in-depth
immediately.

I realize that for anyone with an allergy this is an enormously
important issue, so let me apologize again for the miscommunication
and lack of clarity. We will be updating our website to more clearly
spell out the fact that these meals are gluten-free along with the
other allergens listed above.

We already list all of the ingredients used in each meal, which you
can see by clicking the View Recipe button next to each recipe;
however, we need to do a better job of summarizing this on the
homepage...something we'll get to by early next week.

As a way of making this up to you, I'd like to offer you a 10%
discount on your first order. You can call the same customer service
number (888-858-7251) and ask for Ace, give him your name, and he
will ensure your receive the discount.

I'd love to get your feedback on the meals and how we can improve them.

As a person with Celiac disease, working on this project was
extremely exciting because I know just how hard it is to get good,
healthy, fresh food when you have an allergy, particularly one that's
as tricky to navigate as this is.

Thank you so much for your feedback -- please feel free to respond
with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Marc Stockman
President, UltraWellness LLC
