I just purchased a container of Campbells Harvest Select Chicken Cheese
Tortilla. From the label, which seemed to be very complete, it appears to be
gluten free. Just to be on the safe side I called Campbells customer service.
The person told me that it contains wheat. I told her that wheat was one of
the allergens that must be listed on the label and she said no it didn't.
When she read me the ingredients list that she had for the product it was very
different from what was on the container. After much "discussion" she
finally let me speak to a supervisor. I told the supervisor that I was concerned
about the difference in the list that customer service had and what was
listed on the actual product. Through all of this I made it a point to be very
courteous and explain that this is serious for those of us with certain food
problems. She told me that what I had was a new formulation and that I should
always read the label and not trust the customer service because they are not
always given changes in a timely manner. I asked if this was because there
might be still some old product on the shelves. She said not since I had
used the bar code numbers to ask about the ingredients. So one more thing for
us to deal with. By the way she said they do not have a gluten free list
because they don't know about barley, oats or rye. Hope this is helpful
information for the list serve members. Olivia in VA
