GIG would like to make the celiac community aware of the following
announcement prepared by the American Celiac Disease Alliance.

The National Commission on Digestive Diseases has released its 'DRAFT'
report entitled, "Opportunities and Challenges in Digestive Diseases
Research: Recommendations of the National Commission on Digestive
Diseases." http://development.thehillgroup.com/508/draftplan3.html
<http://development.thehillgroup.com/508/draftplan3.html>

This report is a long-range research plan for digestive diseases
developed by the National Commission on Digestive Diseases. It reflects
the research priorities of the entire digestive diseases research
community. Once finalized it will help guide the direction of
NIH-supported digestive disease research initiatives-and hopefully those
of other digestive disease research groups-for the next decade.

ACDA members -- Dr. Alessio Fasano, Dr. Peter Green, Dr. Joe Murray, and
Dr. Marty Kagnoff participated in working groups, or served as advisors
to the Commission.

Public comments will be accepted until March 8, 2008. Please note that
the Commission's report does not address recommendations on the NIH
peer review process, funding mechanisms, budgets, coding of grants, or
other administrative issues and therefore comments on these areas will
not be considered in shaping the final report.

The ACDA will be carefully reviewing the recommendations and submitting
comments, and will share those with the list when they are completed.
