Hi, All!
Wow, I got a ton of replies to this one! Seems there are a lot of us out there who experience these foot and leg muscle cramps, and some of us even get them in the abdominal area as well where the muscle tightens after bending over too far. Of course, these leg and foot cramps are also experienced by a lot of non-celiacs also; but I still can't help but wonder (especially in light of the responses that I received about magnesium, etc.) if this isn't also caused from a mineral deficiency resulting from celiac disease. Thanks so much to everyone for all the great information!! I must have had at least 60 replies. I will list a summary as best I can of all the information. Sorry I could not respond to all of you personally.

Here is a summary of all the recommendations I received:

Take 3 calcium/vitamin D supplements throughout the day
Eat more potatoes, bananas, orange juice -- more souces of potassium
Need more magnesium, especially when women are over a certain age
Take supplement of potassium, calcium, magnesium
Take supplement of Calcium, vitamin D, magnesium
Take Maganese -- a different form of magnesium
Hyland's homeopathic Leg Cramps With Quinine from vitacost.com
Take quinine in the form of drinking tonic water
Cut corn out of your diet
Drink plenty of water -- many felt dehydration causes leg cramps
  May be related to arthritis
  Wear supportive shoes
Salt -- take two salt tablets at bedtime or drink 1/4-1/2 t salt in a glass of water
Put sea salt under your tongue, let dissolve -- can swallow it or spit it out
(of course, don't use the salt if you are salt sensitive or cannot have extra salt)
Take magnesium malate -- 1300 mg (200 mg magnesium 960 mg malic acid)
  Balance magnesium and calcium
Could be caused from low iron or anemia (I've had this problem forever!)
Could be caused by electrolyte imbalance -- have your doctor check for deficiencies
Caused by exercise -- need more calcium
One person's cramps were solved by getting a new mattress with better support
Calcium magnesium powder -- 1/2-1 scoop at bedtime (helps you sleep too)
50 mg ASA (aspirin) relieves them quickly
Don't stretch in bed with legs and toes pointed to prevent cramps
Caused by eating sugar, fruit, corn syrup, starchy vegetables. Honey is better
  Increase salt, potassium, magnesium
Don't eat grain-fed meat, dairy, nuts, soy, salt and sugar
  Don't eat MSG
  Caused from eating dairy
B12 helps -- the kind you dissolve under your tongue
  B12 5000 mg/B6 and folic acid
  Drink Gatorade
Put a bar of soap under your bed sheets near your legs (Google for info on this, but seems
                                                                                    odd that it would work)
