Peter,
I think Sarko is building his own school of Puppetry. Thus, he uses the classic approach whereby the "(Head)Master" makes one "pupil" believe that he (or she in today's Africa) is better than the other "pupils" to make sure that all the "pupils" strive to not be a "bad pupil".
Only in Africa (or should I say certain countries?) can a Western leader make the kind of statement Sarko has made and not get challenged.
Power has such a way of reinventing itself while remaining the same.
