A quicker method is to go to the drive in My Computer, switch screen
echo to All, and then read the Status Line, the bottom line of the
active windows, with insert-pageDown (using JAWS) or the equivalent
keystroke with other screen reader.

You did the correct steps to get to the drive information. You do have
to
make sure the drive you want is selected. If you do Shift-F10 with out
the
drive being selected you get System Properties dialog instead. The
value
you want is called Used Space. With JAWS I find it easier to use the
JAWS
curser to read the information on the General tab of the Drive
Properties
dialog box, so if you use another screen reader you may want to use the
mode
that uses the mouse curser. With JAWS press INSERT + Num-Pad Minus to
route
the JAWS curser to the PC curser then press the Num-Pad Minus for JAWS
Curser mode then arrow down until you hear Used Space.
