1111Hi All
Does anyone know of good resources for creating series of documents
pertaining to different phases of a process that are all accessible?
Let me explain what I mean:
In a fit of insanity, I volunteered to help review some grant
applications for a local government entity. This would be a daunting
task if I had a job and a reader because some of the info is highly
visual. However, other parts of the process could be more accessible
than they are. I have the quaint expectation that since the
applications I am reviewing all relate to special needs transportation,
there might be higher than average expectation that people with
accessible document needs might be involved at different phases of the
grant submission and review process.
The process is:
--Organizations submit grant applications. The application form is a
PDF though I have not paid attention to whether it is one with
updateable fields. The text reads withJAWS but I have a couple
navigation issues that I think are my JAWS skills more than the
document.
--There are some rating criteria on the website with the applications
but I have not found those documents which I need for scoring.
--Governmental entity overseeing the application process collects, does
some basic checks and prints or distributes files to the happy
volunteers. At this phase, the governmental entity created big
consolidated PDF's. There are 3 of them. One of them has graphic
images, not readable text. The others have readable text but I am not
sure how to find some graphics I can see in the monster notebook I also
received.
--There is an ugly scoring matrix in excel. Part of what is ugly is
that the scoring matrix could have been automated and populated with
data from a separate spreadsheet list of projects. Another thing that
is ugly to me is three columns instead of 1 for each score. This
addresses something in the scoring process that could easily be
addressed with some automated formatting or other processes in Excel.
--Next all the happy scorers are supposed to email in our scoring
matrices and I expect some gnome will do manual data transfer to a
global ranking process.
I really do not care about redesigning the whole process, especially
for free, but I would really love it if anyone has any easy suggestions
for resources that would promote accessibility throughout this process.
Thanks in Advance.
