I hope that this individual has something more in protection beyond merely
NOrton's antivirus package. I personally would suggest a complete
internet security package such as Norton's Internet Security or Eset Smart
Security 3.0.
Now, having said this, let's get to your situation. Each year's package
is a new program. If you installed 2003, I doubt that definitions are
still being supported.
Probably, and I am only guessing, you would be offered an upgrade option
which you probably will have to pay for.
I run Norton Internet Security on a couple of machines. I, however, don't
necessarily upgrade the program's yearly. The version right now that I
prefer is the 2006 version as it is far more screen reader friendly than
2007 or 2008.
Thus, in the future, before taking the kneejerk step of installing a new
version just because it is offered, I would urge checking with a few
highly trafficed blindness lists to see if there is a common wisdom on the
matter.
