Heather, I am sorry that I cannot answer your questions. I suggest that you
ask the vendor but remember that he is trying to sell a product. I also
suggest that you go to the Chicago Lighthouse to see it and ask what they
can tell you about it.

Also, there is a wonderful service at the American Foundation for the Blind
that evaluates assistive technology. Go to
http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw090205 and you may find the
answers to some of your questions.

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] CCTV use with PCs

Thank you all for your quick responses! This is the first I've seen of
the Zoom-Ex. I will certainly follow up on the contacts you all suggested.

To the best of any of your knowledge, does the Zoom-Ex work well for
extended sessions of reading? Or is it more of a scanner, allowing
readers to scan now, and read later? I've read some reviews that suggest
that stand alone CCTVs are better for extended reading than are some of
the portable devices, which is part of why I was looking at that option.

We also don't have a PC currently available for use, and budget is an
issue, as of course it always is. With the CCTV, we envisioned
purchasing the magnifier now, and hopefully purchasing a PC during a
future PC purchase/replenish cycle, if that would even give us the
functionality we desired, that is. If something like the Zoom-Ex is
really the better kind of device for us, I will just have to polish up
my persuasive argument skills and try to make it happen all at once.

I'd also like to thank Dorene for brining up new questions. We certainly
would be concerned about excessive light exposure, so I'll definitely
keep that in mind.

And thank you all again for your advice!

Heather
