There are most definitely ways to circumvent the admin password.  I did 
this not that long ago.  There are different programs and services that 
you can use.  The one I used was basically a Linux boot disk that would 
boot the machine, then blank the password file out.

I can try and find the disk I used, but my home office is currently a 
shambles and it could take some time to find and I will be out of town for 
a few weeks starting soon.

So, yes you can crack your own machine without having to re-install the 
OS.
