It was an uncharacteristic gaffe, and after reading the article, I
don't think it was a direct slam against Palin. IMHO, he was
referring to the old saying about dressing up an old idea as a new
one, as being similar to putting lipstick on a pig - it doesn't
improve the animal's appearance appreciably, and annoys the pig.
