The wetter it is, the easier to split. The wood strands shrink down into
tight bundles as it dries. Harder to separate.
Are you using a splitting maul, with a triangle shaped head? Or a wedge
you hit with a hammer of some sort? My splitting days are long gone, but
the guys here that split my wood use a big gigantic heavy maul.
