A small village in Burkina Faso is devastated by the sudden deaths of many
of its children. Fearing the worst, Diarrha, despite the objections of his
wife Napoko, sends their daughter Pougbila to a neighboring village to
enter into an arranged marriage. Following tradition, the village elders
conduct a witch-hunt to find the person responsible for the deaths, and
Napoko winds up blamed and banished from the village. When Pougbila learns
of her mothers fate, she sets out on a journey to find and exonerate her
mother. Based on a true story, Delwende examines some of the traditional
customs in Africa and the role women play in exposing the injustices
perpetrated against them.
