Angel,

You said...
"The books actually engage the children in reading hard copy books which is
good. Functional illiteracy is rampant these days and anything which will
promote literacy is a good thing"

I respectfully disagree. While I do think some of the criticisms are fought
with an attitude the books were written and published straight out of hell
and perhaps somewhat over the top, yet I know they weren't written in
heaven either. I also do not believe them to be spiritually healthy
according to those whom opinions and discernments I respect. I do not need
to read the Koran to know it is not of God, or other publications which
have been run through the ringer enough to get a fair assessment as to
their origin if one looks at it openly, and I do find it a bit naive to
assume anything that will bring a lesser gap in illiteracy is good. Beware
of wolves in sheep's clothing. The way I've seen things progress over the
years is the wolf is a clone to a sheep in appearance. Next you know the
wool takes on a bit darker of a tinge, just barely noticeable. Soon the
hair then becomes a little less curly and more strait and the white stub
tail grows a few inches at a time, ever so slowly. The muzzle becomes a bit
more defined and protruded and flattened. The fur takes on a little darker
tinge to it now again. The ears begin to perk a little bit but still not
too noticeable over time, and this continues until you stare bold face
into the eyes of a wolf and think little of it. It isn't the full blown
wolf's face we need be concerned with as that becomes obvious to avoid, it
is the slight changes, as they begin, as they seem harmless enough. If you
watch any TV, which I don't so much and why it stands out to me, we went
from Elvis being shown waist up in the 60's to not show a wriggling leg, to
nearly the queen mother of cuss words, sex scenes, some nudity and never
ending innuendoes of sexual inferences both in heterosexual to homosexual.
Watch for those colored changing straightened curls. I do agree that
illiteracy is more prevelent, especially in the inner cities due to lack of
education funding and disfunctional families, but not a reason to accept
the words written between the lines in order to lower illiteracy
statistics. Maybe we can pray for an equal of Christian value, a modern day
CS Lewis or the like.
